The Game Awards 2020 resmi umumkan daftar nominasinya. Game-game yang masuk dalam nominasi TGA 2020 ini adalah game-game populer dan revolusioner yang sudah diakui kualitasnya. Beberapa game besar tersebut diantaranya adalah Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima dan masih banyak lagi.
Pemenang dari The Game Awards 2020 akan resmi diumumkan pada tanggal 10 Desember 2020 mendatang. Terdapat 11 nominasi atau nominees di The Game Awards 2020 yang akan diperebutkan yaitu: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Innovation in Accessibility, Best Action/Adventure, dan dua entri untuk Best Performance.

The Last of Us 2 dirumorkan akan menjadi game yang berkemungkinan menyabet banyak nominasi pada The Game Awards 2020 ini. Tetapi TLOU 2 juga memiliki saingan berat yaitu Ghost of Tsushima yang juga mendapatkan banyak review positif dari pada pemain. Cyberpunk 2077 seharusnya bisa menjadi game yang akan memenangkan banyak penghargaan pada The Game Awards 2020 ini, khususnya Game of The Year. Tetapi sayangnya, Cyberpunk 2077 tidak masuk dalam kategori nominasi apapun. Hal ini dikarenakan game Cyberpunk 2077 kembali ditunda.
